The Greens at Pier 17

So, I happened to see someone’s IG story and they were at this really cool looking spot with a setup I had never seen before. Like seriously, a NYC rooftop with personal lawns? I had to be there! Unfortunately for me, the person didn’t tag the location (I’m not one to ask, and luckily for you, you have me to give you all the deets). But through my handy detective work, I was able to find a clue in their story as to where it was, and BOOM! Here I am; The Green’s at Pier 17.

I’ve been stalking their website for tickets ever since I found out about them. And honey, the task was not easy. If you’ve already tried to snag some I’m sure you’re probably discouraged by the fact that they’re ALWAYS sold out. But don’t fret, here’s what you need to know about getting a reservation…

• They release new dates 2 weeks in advance, every Monday at 10am. So this is when you should be on the site ready to race the other hundreds of patrons fighting for a spot. They literally sell out in minutes.

• If you happen to miss the time slot you were looking for, definitely sign up to be on the waiting list. It’s almost guaranteed you’ll receive an email with available slots. You’ll even get some ‘exclusive’ times you can reserve.

Reservations are only $1! So be like me and buy up as many as you can, just in case ‘life happens’ (rain, change of plans or…..a nuclear explosion – because we just don’t know what this world is capable of)….

*Pay attention to if they are hosting any type of event on the day that you reserve; the price could change dramatically. During their show of the US OPEN Tournaments, a reservation was $140*

Ok, so here are my overall ratings:

HOSPITALITY: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nothing to complain about here. From my experience, the staff was courteous and prompt with service. We were seated almost immediately, and didn’t wait more than 10mins for our food after ordering.

THE FOOD

TASTE: ⭐️⭐️

Our dinner choices were: the Marinated Sesame Crusted Chicken Fingers, French Fries (my FAV! You’ll learn that I’m a fry girl, and these were soooo good!), Grilled Cheese and the Grilled Faroe Island Salmon Kebab. For drinks, we both went with the Sangria – which I no longer see on the menu.

Generally speaking, the food was good. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about either. One thing I can say though, our meals could have been a bit warmer. I’m not sure how the food is prepared or stored, but it was quite obvious that nothing was “fresh off the grill”. A friend of mine had the same complaint with her calamari; good, but cold.

Side Note: as a cool way to keep social distancing guidelines going, you order and pay for your food by scanning a QR code right on you phone! Also, no outside food or drinks allowed.

PRESENTATION: ⭐️⭐️

The dishes looked appetizing enough, but served rather plainly ; in cardboard containers with plastic lids. But given the whole idea of the picnic / backyard theme, I guess I could give this a pass. I would have liked to see the food on wicker plates, but hey, who am I?

COST: $$$

Considering the options, the menu is a bit pricey. I know everyone’s “pricey” is different, but I just don’t see anyone disagreeing with me that $10 French fries, $15 chicken fingers and a $12 Grilled Cheese is completely reasonable. Not the most expensive, but could definitely use a price reduction here and there.

THE VENUE: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s the set up for me! The only reason I wanted to visit was because of the unique ‘Social distance in style’ set-up. Honestly, I didn’t care about the food or anything else. I just loved the view and look of the place; that was enough to get me there. The venue is clean, spacious and ridiculously relaxing. I was glad they didn’t rush to kick us out after our allotted 90 mins , but I didn’t want to leave.

Depending on the amount of people you reserve for, you may find that your lawn is set up different. For the larger crowds (up to 8 people) the lawns are equipped with a couple two-seater sofas as well as lawn chairs! It seriously makes for the cutest night out. They also have Gaming Lawns, where you can enjoy some popular outdoor activities while enjoying the view (gaming lawns are a separate reservation and costs $25).

FAMILY FRIENDLY : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This venue welcomes children of ALL ages, and small dogs too! So yes, yo can bring your babies along if you need too. Not quite equipped with activities that children will enjoy (so maybe have some toys handy to limit restlessness), but they are welcomed, nonetheless.

If you haven’t visited yet, HURRY UP! The Greens is here as a pop-up dining experience that’ll run until mid-October, and is not promised to be back next summer! Go get your reservation now!

*My experience took place Summer 2020. There may be changes to the menu, restrictions or pricing . Please be sure to check the site for more info!*
