Cozy, comfort food and close to home, Cornbread of Maplewood NJ is one of the best restaurants to satisfy your southern cravings.
After blowing off some steam at the gun range, we were rejuvenated and definitely hungry; I didn’t have a taste for anything but soul food. Jamil had suggested we stop by this place in the heart of Maplewood, that specializes in southern cuisine; he couldn’t have made a better choice…
Cornbread is a cozy restaurant, reminiscent of an eatery you would find deep in the south. I loved everything about the venue. The setup, the food, the staff… all made my visit worthwhile.
The Facility:
The restaurant is not huge, but it’s complete with 2 outside patios and 2 floors. More than enough space to host a nice dinner party, or even just enjoy a relaxing sip of homemade iced tea over great conversation with friends. The walls are decorated with beautiful black and white pictures of famous Jazz Musicians, plastered on perfectly painted dark gray walls. This place really, really puts you in your comfort zone.
The Food:
Now, the food was great! Although I must say, the selection isn’t all that large. The main dishes include; oxtails, fish (catfish or whiting), chicken (baked or fried), bbq ribs (pork) and Turkey wings. And for sides, you have the choice of: Mac and cheese, yellow rice, candied yams, string beans, collard greens, potato salad and of course…. corn bread! They serve their drinks in cute little mason jars, and only had peach cobbler available for dessert.
Since I was trying out the Keto diet (at least for that hour 😂) I went with the baked chicken and a side of their collard greens and string beans. And let me tell y’all how I ate every single bite! I even snuck some of of Jamil’s fried catfish because that crispy skin was calling my name (yes, keto went out the window right then and there – I’ll try again soon 😬).
The staff was extremely professional and quick with servicing us. Overall, I had a great experience.
Guys, if you happen to be around any of their locations (they have only 4 so far) make sure you try them out!!! I promise, you will not be disappointed!
Have you ever been to Cornbread? If not, GO!
