15 Things I Never Travel Without

I’ve learned that packing isn’t just about fitting everything into a suitcase, it’s about bringing the things that make traveling easier, more comfortable, and a little less stressful. Whether I’m heading out for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation, there are a few items that always make the cut. Outside of the typical travel size toiletries, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. these are the travel essentials I reach for every single time.

1. Compression Bags:

Compression bags are a game changer when you’re trying to make everything fit. They save valuable suitcase space and leave room for us to pack those extra 5 outfits we absolutely don’t need ☺️

2. Disinfectant wipes and sprays:

Disinfectant wipes and spray are a must-have in my bag. Germs are everywhere, and I’d rather be prepared than spend my vacation worrying about what I just touched.

3. Toilet Seat Covers:

Flushable toilet seat covers take up almost no space, but they’ve earned a permanent spot in my bag. Do we even want to think about the amount of butts that sat on that public toilet before us? 🥴

4. Compact iron or steamer:

Wrinkled clothes can make even your favorite outfit look less put together (and we can’t have that). A compact iron or travel steamer takes up very little space and helps you look your best without having to rely on the hotel having one available.

5. Portable Fan:

This portable fan is a lifesaver on hot, humid days, a literal handheld air conditioner that we all need. Because who likes to be all hot and sweaty when we’re on vacation trying to be cute? Tuh! Stay cool at all times.

6. First Aid Kit:

A small first aid kit with aspirin, pain relievers, allergy medicine, and nausea medication is something I never leave behind. Accidents happen, and I’d rather be prepared than stuck with a pounding headache, a cut, or itchy puffy eyes. No bueno.

7. Cross-body Bag or Fanny Pack:

A lightweight crossbody bag or fanny pack keeps my essentials close while I’m out exploring. It’s convenient, comfortable, and gives me a little extra peace of mind knowing my belongings are harder to grab than they would be in a loose shoulder bag.

8. Comfortable Sneakers:

Listen, even if I don’t plan on wearing them, I always pack a comfortable pair of sneakers. Travel has a funny way of changing your plans, and I’d rather have them sitting in my suitcase than spend an entire vacation wishing I had packed them.

9. Extra Outfit in My Personal Bag:

I always pack an extra outfit in my personal bag for quick access, just in case my checked luggage gets delayed, something spills during the trip or I don’t feel like unpacking my carry-on. Hopefully I’ll never need it, but it’s one of those things I’m always glad to have if I do.

10. Neck Pillow:

A good neck pillow can make a long flight or road trip so much more comfortable. It may not be the most glamorous thing to pack, but arriving with a stiff neck is even less glamorous.

11. Identification:

This one is a no-brainer, but always double-check that you have your driver’s license, passport, or any other identification you’ll need before you leave. It’s one of the easiest things to overlook, and one of the hardest to travel without.

12. Light Jacket and Umbrella:

A lightweight jacket and a compact umbrella are always in my suitcase. Tropical destinations, especially, have a funny way of surprising you with a quick rain shower, and restaurants, airplanes, and hotels can be much colder than expected. I’d rather be prepared than let the weather decide my plans.

13. AirTags For Checked Luggage:

An AirTag gives me extra peace of mind, especially when I’m checking a bag. But mostly, I’m a carry-on girly, because who has time to be losing luggage when we have outfits to slay? If my suitcase decides to take a detour, at least I’ll know where it’s headed.

14. Portable Charger:

My phone works overtime on vacation between GPS, photos, and looking up restaurants. This portable charger keeps me connected without constantly searching for an outlet. I love it for its compact size and long battery life.

15. Cash:

I always travel with a little cash, just in case a place doesn’t accept cards or there’s an emergency. I also make a point to keep it somewhere other than my wallet—like tucked away in my suitcase or another secure spot—so I have a backup if my wallet is ever lost or stolen.
