Pier 17: Winter Edition ❄️

You probably remember me over the summer at a rooftop with really cool personal mini lawns. Well, this is it! The Greens at Pier 17 did it again with yet another super dope set up with social distancing in mind. You won’t find a Winter rooftop theme like this anywhere! Here’s all you need to know…

The Venue

Environment: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This seasons theme was, ‘the Cozy Winter Cabin’. Do I even need explain why I gave it 5 stars? I mean just look at this place. Most rooftop venues offer igloos. That’s cool and all, but what really compares to a private cabin complete with a couch and full-size dining table? Oh, and let’s not forget the wicker ceiling lamps, coat hangers, the AMAZING views and tv screen doubling as a fire place. It’s really like sitting in a small dining-room, and I’m here for it all.

If you’re worried about the cold weather, DON’T! The cabins are very well heated. In fact, it was too hot for us. They have it set on 82°, but you can alter it if needed. We actually ended up turning the heat off and cracking the door open, it was comfortable enough that way.

The cabins are spotless and thoroughly disinfected after each party.

Family friendly: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Feel free to bring the kiddos, and your (small) dog too! Both times we came we saw numerous families, even those with infants. But don’t worry, you won’t have to deal with their typical annoyances; one, because you’re completely blocked off from all other guests, and two, no one is allowed to freely walk around unless to take pictures. We haven’t had any problems with children being present.

Hospitality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No complaints here. The staff is courteous and promptly handles any issues you may have (like Jamil’s medium rare burger he complained about 🙄). Upon arrival, you’re seated without any wait time, and there is roughly a 5-10 minute wait for your food after it’s ordered. When your time is almost up, your Waiter comes and politely reminds you of this (each reservation is 90 minutes).

The Food

Taste: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

The food is average, at best. Not bad, just average. I haven’t tasted anything I would come back for. The choices remind me of a movie theatre menu, and are mostly finger foods.

Our choices included:

Salmon Tartar Guacamole ($18, probably my favorite out of everything we ordered. Mostly because I love salmon), Herbal Broccoli Dip ($16, I didn’t really like this one. The texture is mushy and it tastes sweet. Besides that it’s pretty bland), Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger ($22, just a burger with a side of fries. Nothing else to say about it). For drinks, we had the Mulled Cider ($18. This is a warm drink and pretty cozy, but the cup is literally the size of the palm of my hand) and the Winter Cherry ($16. Good drink, perfect strength, not watered down).

All food and drinks are ordered using a QR code.

Presentation:⭐️⭐️

Just as mundane as the taste. This is pretty upsetting because at a venue such as this, you really want to see something unique in front you. I thought that maybe the type of food they serve, and the paper containers they serve it in, was just for the summer. But nope, it’s obviously a staple here. (I would otherwise be ok with this, but when I compare the plating to the venue I just can’t accept it).

Price: $$$

Considering what’s offered, the menu items could afford to be a bit cheaper. At least if the presentation were more unique, it could serve as a point to justify this. But you can check out their Winter menu and pricing here.

*Important Tips* New dates are released every Monday at 10a, for the following weeks reservations. So plan to book a week in advance. It’s still pretty tough to catch a spot, so make sure you set your alarm! They’re literally booked within minutes! Also, unlike the $1 reservations over the summer, it costs $50 to book a cabin for dinner during the week, as well as for dinner & lunch on the weekends. It’s only $5 for lunch during the week. This cost does NOT go toward your food purchase. Don’t be afraid a to add your name to the waiting list. You’ll more than likely revive an email with exclusive dates 😉.

Would I go back? Absolutely yes! But only when the theme is changed again. I’m a sucker for a scene, and they have exactly what I’m looking for (I may sneak some oxtails and Mac and cheese in my bag next time, but I’ll go for the pictures, nontheless… lol). I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
